What Did You Do Today?

Long day at work. So glad to be home.
Asked the cats what they did while I was toiling away to put food in their cat bowls.
April - "Slept in your room, but you left the light on. You're getting forgetful."
Pierre -  "Slept on the box in the hallway with Midnight."
"No hanky panky."

Mickey -  "Slept on the stairs all day without the paparazzi snapping pictures."

Jake -  "Slept on the couch dreaming of snacks."

Mr. C -  "Slept. Still sleeping. Leave me alone."

Essentials for Happiness

According to the late writer, Joseph Addison,
there are three essentials for happiness:

"Something to do,
 Something to love,
 Something to hope for."

Well Joseph, I'm here to tell you that you were so right, especially for my cats.

1. They all have something to do everyday -
Eat, sleep, and watch me as if they are the paparazzi.

2. They all have something to love -
    Me and empty boxes.

3. They all have something to hope for -
Food, and to run outside before I close the door.

As for me, I have the essentials too.

1. Something to do -
Counsel Mr.C, Jake, Pierre, April, Midnight, and Mickey
on a daily basis for 'little things,'
like playing tricks with their voice, that loud deep gargle meow they make only
when they're in another room, pretending they know nothing when I stop
what I'm doing to check on them.
Tripping me up to beat me to my chair, kneading my hair at 4 in the morning,
chewing through the loaf of bread I left on the counter,
walking on my keyboard while I type.
2. Something to love -
Love each of them, even though I have to buy lint rollers
    every other day.

3. Something to hope for-
One day, they will clean their own litter boxes.
